The Program in Community and Agroecology (PICA) is a unique collaboration that engages students with critical issues in the development of sustainable food systems and sustainable communities through academic coursework, community-based activities and gardening. Projects at the Sustainable Living Center include ecological landscaping, greenhouse propagation and composting. In the Foundational Roots Garden, you’ll learn about and help with planting, watering, weeding, digging beds, cover cropping—and of course harvesting. Students are invited to stay for PICA’s community lunch after the garden workday at 1 pm. For more information about PICA, see http://ucscpica.org/. |
