Alan Chadwick helped establish organic food in the US, and planted the seeds that made UCSC a pioneer in sustainable agro-ecology. Ken Norris did pioneering work on marine mammals and led to saving Falcons and thus other raptors from extinction from DDT (UCSC'S Richard Cooley helped fund Carson's Silent Spring).
